It is a great day for all of us at UTT and the Indian Table Tennis fraternity as we congratulate our paddlers for securing qualification to the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. Sharath Kamal, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, Manika Batra and Sutirtha Mukherjee have qualified for the men's and women's singles events at the Olympics.
The formidable pairing of Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra will also participate in the maiden mixed doubles event in Table Tennis at the Olympics, after confirming qualification on Friday.
All of the four participants, who are in the top-100 of their singles' world rankings, have also enjoyed brilliant runs at UTT, that has aided their rise over the last few years. Manika Batra, who now plays with RPSG Mavericks, was the UTT champion with Dabang Delhi T.T.C. in the 2018 edition. She has also been conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, having created history at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The evergreen paddling maestro Sharath Kamal, is a record 9-time national champion and has won the UTT trophy with Chennai Lions in 2019. He is an Olympics veteran and has been representing India in the showpiece event since 2004.
Sathiyan was conferred the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2018 and has also lifted the UTT trophy with Dabang Delhi T.T.C. in 2018. Sutirtha Mukherjee from U Mumba TT has won a gold as member of the 2018 Commonwealth Games women's team and is a 2-time national champion.
Their shining credentials make us believe in their excellent talent, skills, and perseverance. We are truly proud and wish our paddlers good luck at the Tokyo Olympic games.
