With the memory of one of the closest semi-finals in the Ultimate Table Tennis ever still fresh, we head into another highly anticipated encounter tonight as Chennai Lions take on Goa Challengers in the second semi-final of UTT Season 3, at the Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi.
Goa Challengers finished the league stage the same way they began, in dominating fashion, with a 11-4 win over Puneri Paltan Table Tennis. Cheng I-Ching was at her lethal best, and spearheaded the Challengers in Tie 14, and will be one to watch out for tonight.
Archana Kamath did well the last time the teams faced each other, winning her game against Madhurika Patkar 2-1, but that one game lost was enough to see the Lions win that tightly contested encounter.
Chennai Lions are a team in good form, and were just narrowly defeated by Dabang Delhi T.T.C. in the previous encounter, but that was more to Sathiyan Gnanasekaran’s merit than to a shortcoming on the Lions part. They are still a team in good form, and are very capable of holding off the Challengers.
Sharath Kamal and Petrissa Solja have been the star performers for the Lions, and they also rested Tiago Apolonia in the previous encounter, giving a shot to Anirban Ghosh since a semi-final place was already confirmed.
The Lions will be raring to go tonight, and semi-final 2 already has all the right ingredients for an epic clash.
Tune in to Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 HD, Star Sports Select 1, Star Sports Select 1 HD, Hotstar and JioTV today at 7 pm IST to witness the second finalist be chosen for the UTT grand finale.
