The U Mumba family has extended to include table tennis to their sporting family, and so U Mumba TT becomes one of the new teams in the Ultimate Table Tennis Season 3.

The Ronnie Screwvala owned franchise snapped up Soumyadeep Roy and Jiaqi Zheng at the coach draft as their Indian and foreign coaches respectively. This will be US Olympian Jiaqi’s first involvement with the UTT, and the youngest coach of the tournament looks more than capable of taking on the challenge, partnering up with experienced Indian coach, Soumyadeep Roy.

Doo Hoi Kem, the current WR. 12 in the women’s category, was the first player to be snapped up by U Mumba. The paddler from Hong Kong is in her third season of the UTT and will be eager to get her hands on the silverware as she spearheads the team in the competition.

She is joined by current India no. 1, Manav Thakkar, who just recently bid adieu to the junior circuit. Manav got a lot of hearts racing in UTT Season 2 when he debuted, registering game-wins and match-wins against higher, much experienced international paddlers.

Season 1 winner Sutirtha Mukherjee and young Moumita Dutta add firepower to the U Mumba lineup, as Kazakhstan’s No.1 paddler Kirill Gerassimenko makes his UTT debut with the outfit.

Jeet Chandra completes the squad in the Youth Boy’s category. U Mumba are one of the most youthful teams in the competition.

“We have a very good mix of International and Indian players. Now it’s about playing it out and seeing how the plans pan out,” U Mumba CEO Supratik Sen said.

U Mumba TT takes on Chennai Lions on July 26 at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi in their first game of the season.
