The fixtures for all matches of the inaugural Ultimate Table Tennis were out on 22nd June. The league which has six teams with players from India and abroad, begins on 13th July in Chennai while the finals will be played in Mumbai, on 30th July. Being broadcasted on the Star Sports network and Jio TV, UTT promises to provide nearly three weeks of action-packed table tennis – something that the nation will witness for the first time.
Three cities will host the matches in the first edition of the league – Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai. The league stage will, start with Chennai hosting the first tie of UTT. The capital of Tamil Nadu will get to stage the most number of ties this season – eight to be precise. The first ever UTT tie will be played between RP-SG Mavericks and Falcons TTC.
The league will then move on to Delhi from 21st July. The nation’s capital will host five ties till 25th July. For the business end of the tournament, we move to Mumbai where the last two league ties will be played on 26th and 27th July. Following the completion of the league stage of UTT, the two semi-finals and the mega final will also be held in Mumbai.
Being a short league with six teams, there are no breaks during the 18-day long spectacle. Moreover, the first season won’t have any double headers, but each tie will have plenty of contests between players of either team. For a tie that is widely played in the country, both professionally and during leisure time, table tennis is all set to take giant strides and catapult itself to the next level in India with Ultimate Table Tennis.
