RS-SG Mavericks Kolkata is one of the only two teams that have been in the Ultimate Table Tennis since the first season, alongside Dabang Delhi T.T.C.
The team, known as RP-SG Mavericks earlier, hasn’t made it to the finals of the tournament in any season, and will be driven to change that in UTT Season 3.
At the off, the Mavericks secured the services of N Ravichandran and Zoltan Batorfi as their Indian and Foreign coach at the coach draft. This is Zoltan’s first time in the UTT, and the Hungarian National Champion is known for his attacking methods as displayed in his consistent work with the Hungarian Women’s team, and should complement N Ravindran’s coaching style perfectly.
In the first-round pick, RP-SG Mavericks went for India’s Commonwealth Games star and Season 2 champion, Manika Batra. Manika is joined by another highly attacking paddler, Matilda Ekholm. Matilda, or ‘Matie’ as she’s known as, was a finalist in Season 2, and was known for her high-voltage clashes in the UTT, and was beaten by Manika in the final. They team-up with India No.1 in the July 2019 rankings, Prapti Sen, to form an explosive trio.
The Mavericks also picked Season 1 winner and Season 2 finalist with Falcons TTC, Sanil Shetty, to be the only team in the UTT with two Championship winning paddlers in their squad. Sanil is joined by debutants Germany’s Benedikt Duda and Indian ace Manush Shah, who will be keen to stamp their authority in their categories.
A side armed with skill and experience, the Mavericks will aim at nothing less than the title.
As their CEO Raghu Iyer said, “The expectation and hope remains that the Mavericks will lift the trophy this year!”
RP-SG Mavericks Kolkata plays their first tie on 27th July against Goa Challengers at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi.
