Falcons T.T.C.'s Sutirtha Mukherjee along with Maharashtra United's Pooja Sahasrabudhe grabbed a bronze medal today at the ITTF World Tour Platinum Australia Open. The Indian pairing backed themselves beating crowd favourites Miao Miao and Jian Fang Lay from Australia 3-1 (11-9, 12-14, 8-11, 9-11) in the quarterfinals.
Continuing their good form, Sutirtha and Pooja didn't let the experienced Australian pairing dominate the proceedings and moved to the semifinals in style. Though in the semifinals, they lost to the top-seeded pair of Chen Meng and Zhu Yuling of China, ending their campaign with a bronze against the formidable pair at 4-11, 6-11, 2-11.
Just about a week before the CEAT UTT starts on July 13 in Chennai, the medal winning performance should do a world of good to the confidence of both Pooja and Sutirtha and their respective teams Maharashtra United and Falcons T.T.C..
