DHFL Maharashtra United and RP-SG Mavericks lock horns on Day 6!
18 Jul, 2017

Tie 6 of CEAT Ultimate Table Tennis will see DHFL Maharashtra United go head-to-head against RP-SG Mavericks at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. After losing their inaugural Tie against Falcons TTC, RP-SG Mavericks will hope to bounce back in Tuesday’s clash, while DHFL Maharashtra United will look to continue their winning ways going forward.

There is no doubt that the Mavericks want India’s favourite player Sharath Kamal to come good, as the 35-year-old succumbed to losses in both the matches in Singles and Mixed Doubles, on opening day. After Kamal was defeated by Par Gerell, his team-mate Sabine Winter looked splendid against Sutirtha Mukherjee. The 24-year-old German however, couldn’t replicate her performance against world no.8 Wu Yang.

The Falcons took an unassailable lead after Tiago Apolonia capitulated to Gerell in the penultimate Match, however, Sofia Polcanova’s clean sweep win over Lee Ho Ching in the final Match gave the Mavericks vital points going further in the league.

DHFL Maharashtra United, on the other hand, made a winning start to their campaign by defeating Oilmax-Stag Yoddhas 15-12 in an exciting contest on Saturday. Harmeet Desai set the pace for the team by outsmarting world no.19 Panagiotis Gionis in the Men’s Singles Match. However, the Mixed Doubles is a major concern for the Maharashtra United, as Pooja Sahasrabudhe and Joao Monteiro were thumped emphatically by the duo of Aruna Quadri and Manika Batra.

Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Ting won both his Matches, including a close battle against Rio Olympics quarter-finalist Quadri Aruna, and the 25-year-old will hope to carry his great form along with the veteran Fu Yu, who helped the team to seal the deal with a win over Russian Polina Mikhailova in the Women’s Singles category on Saturday.

There is no doubt that it’s going to be an intriguing battle with one team desperate to bounce back from the previous defeat, while the other hopes to maintain the winning momentum going forward.

This CEAT UTT Tie will be shown LIVE from 7.30 PM on Star Sports Select HD2, Star Sports Select 2 and will be LIVE streamed on Hotstar and Jio TV.
