In the final Tie of the Chennai leg in CEAT Ultimate Table Tennis, Dabang Smashers face RP-SG Mavericks at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium on Thursday. The Smashers are heading into the game on the back of an entertaining win over Falcons TTC. While the Mavericks are yet to taste success in the league, as they’ve lost both their previous clashes.
Going into Thursday’s match, the big positive for Smashers is the impeccable form of Marcos Freitas, as the southpaw is yet to lose a Match. Apart from Freitas, the contribution of Kou Lei and Anthony Amalraj also proved effective in the previous Ties, and the duo hope to carry their good form against Mavericks.
The only concern for the Smashers heading into Thursday’s clash is that they haven’t found a right combination in the Mixed Doubles, and as a result, they succumbed to defeats in the previous Ties. It’s a concern that they will need to address very quickly in order to pose a stern challenge for tonight’s opponents.
RP-SG Mavericks, on the other hand, lost both the clashes, including a lopsided contest against DHFL Maharashtra United on Tuesday. The only positive for them against Maharashtra United was Sharath Kamal’s astonishing win over world no.8 Wong Chun Ting. The local hero was supreme with his forehand and got his backhands right, too, against his illustrious opponent.
With Dabang Smashers showing a lot of consistency in Men’s Singles category, Kamal’s form would be a big boost for the Mavericks heading into tonight’s clash.
RP-SG Mavericks’ Sabine Winter looks in better shape, while the Mavericks hope that the talented Austrian Stefan Fegerl steps up against the Smashers after he was stunned by Harmeet Desai on Tuesday.
There is no denying that the Mavericks are in a soup considering how things panned out for them so far, but they hope to bounce back with a win against Dabang Smashers tonight.
Meanwhile, the Smashers would look to take advantage against the struggling Mavericks outfit, and hope to carry their winning momentum going forward.
The CEAT UTT Tie will be shown LIVE from 7.30 PM on Star Sports Select HD2, Star Sports Select 2 and will be live streamed on HotStar and Jio TV.
