Confident Oilmax-Stag Yoddhas take on Falcons TTC
19 Jul, 2017

The penultimate day of the Chennai leg in CEAT Ultimate Table Tennis could prove to be an exciting affair, as Oilmax-Stag Yoddhas square off against Falcons TTC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium. After losing the opening encounter to DHFL Maharashtra United, Yoddhas showed enough resilience to claim a nail-biting win over Shaze Challengers on Monday.

Falcons TTC, on the other hand, registered an emphatic win over RP-SG Mavericks on opening day, but they lost narrowly 13-14 in an enticing clash against Dabang Smashers.

Mixed with a combination of young and experienced players, Oilmax-Stag Yoddhas will be looking to carry their winning form by defeating Falcons TTC on Wednesday. Their clash against the Challengers was evenly fought until the eighth Match, but Hong Kong’s Doo Hoi Kem put on an amazing display against Petrissa Solja in the final Match to seal the Tie in favour of her team. There is no doubt that the 20-year-old’s impeccable form would be a big worry for tonight’s opponents.

Talented African Aruna Quadri has blown hot-and-cold so far, therefore his consistency could prove to be vital for the team against Falcons. Meanwhile, Falcons TTC have one of the biggest names in table tennis, Wu Yang, within their ranks. The 25-year-old has been incredible for the team so far and currently has accumulated the most points in the league.

Without any doubt, the Yoddhas have a strong bunch of Women’s Singles players, so it’s interesting to see Yang’s approach in tonight’s clash. Apart from Yang, Lee Ho Ching also proved effective on both the previous Ties. However, the same cannot be said about India’s Sutirtha Mukherjee, as she is yet to win a Game in the Matches she has featured in so far.

The main drawback for Falcons TTC against Dabang Smashers was that they failed to take a lead in the Men’s Singles matches, and that proved decisive in the outcome of the Tie. So, the trio of Par Gerell, Arjun Ghosh, and Sanil Shetty have to turn up today in order to beat the stern Yoddhas challenge.

With both teams containing some star players within their ranks, there’s no doubt that the crowd are in for a fascinating contest on Wednesday. Moreover, the winner of today’s Tie would top the table in CEAT Ultimate Table Tennis league.

This CEAT UTT Tie will be shown LIVE from 7.30 PM on Star Sports Select 2 HD, Star Sports Select 2 and will be Live Streamed on Hotstar and Jio TV.
